We collected donations for charity!

On June 9, 2019 Scranton MMA hosted MMA for a Cause! With the help of our students and the community, we filled up an entire van plus more to donate to the Catherine McAuley Center in Scranton, PA. The center aims to help poor families in our area by providing safe, affordable housing, household necessities, and medical resources. We’re so happy we could help an organization like them. They truly make a difference in our community! We started the day by showing some basic striking techniques. Steve, our head striking instructor, showed the jab, the cross, and some basic footwork. These techniques are widely used in Muay Thai and boxing. Students had a great time hitting the pads and learning new striking techniques! We then moved on to the grappling portion. One of our jiu jitsu instructors, Jess, showed everyone how to close the distance, get the hip toss takedown, and finish with the arm bar submission. These techniques can be used in jiu jitsu and judo competitions, MMA fights, and even in a self defense situation! Finally, four of our judo and jiu jitsu instructors showed more advanced techniques so our current students could get a good workout! Tom showed takedowns, Dom showed guard pulling, Steve showed guard sweeps, and Tyler showed armbar variations! After the seminars were finished, students jumped in to help us fill the van that would be taking donations back to the Catherine McAuley Center. Their help is truly appreciated! Thank you to Jenny Blanchard of the Catherine McAuley Center for helping us organize this event. If you would like to learn more about the Center or make a donation, visit catherinemcauleycenter.org.
